Hi

I am currently on lef. for 2 months together with hydro. reducing steriods. I always have painful wrists and hands, and pretty useless really, awaiting to see O H for splints which I instigated with my GP. Over the past few days . have a ganglion cyst right next to my wrist joint and over the past 24 hours is terribly painful. I wondered whether to go up to A & E but instead rung NHS Direct and said it could be up to six hours for a call back. Had to happen over the bank holiday.

Many thanks Julia

Hi Julia

Sorry to hear you are in so much pain with your wrist. Ganglions are benign swellings of synovial fluid, in your case escaping from the wrist joint by the sounds of it. Sometimes they do go away on their own, but when they get big and troublesome and start to press on surrounding tissue the only option seems to be surgical removal.

I don't expect A&E will be able to help, sounds like a Gp referral for investigation might be needed. Can you increase your painkillers to get you through the weekend? Such a bad time for things to go wrong Sad . Thinking of you,

Many thanks Lyn for your reply, I ve heard from NHS direct and they put me in touch with the " care centre " a part of the hospital and told me there was nothing they could do, I was being transferred to A & E and got cut off. I think you are right about A & E ']( as ever Lyn ) and just keep up the painkillers and keep applying the peas !

Thanks once again for your support, hope you are having a lovely weekend.

Julia xx

Hey Julia

Glad you did get a callback even though it was ineffective!

Make sure those peas aren't frozen!!! Wrap 'em up well before you plonk them on your wrist Tongue Maybe alternating with something warm might help the pain ( cold is usually to reduce inflammation although it could numb the pain too! ) Keep chucking down the pain killers too!

Having a lazy catch up type of weekend. Quite relaxing but must make tea next before boys appear looking hungry! Thank you for your good wishes. Take care Julia,

Hi Julia

Hope you get the ganglion sorted out. Years ago I had one on my foot and ended up having to have it surgically removed, so I know how painful they can be. Keep us informed, won't you?

Thanks Lyn and Anthea

Many thanks for your kind thoughts, luckily to say the pain has now subsided and just left with a small lump, so I am very lucky !

Hope you have both had a good weekend.

Julia xx
